Oklahoma State men’s basketball head coach Travis Ford is trying a number of different ways to build team chemistry this offseason, including cooking.
"We're always looking for new and unique ways to bond our team, and it's got them out of their comfort zone because none of them have been in the kitchen before," explained Ford.
When it comes to cooking experience, Ford was right about his boys. "Cooking is sort of a new cup of tea for me," said guard Jeff Newberry.
Forward Chris Olivier says he never cooks while post Mitchell Solomon says now he knows “there's a lot more that goes into mama's cooking” than he realized.
The underclassmen were the chefs and the menu this time was Mexican food. The big men made dessert, the guards and managers made bacon wrapped peppers and the forwards graded cheese for quesadillas.
Chef night seemed a lot like basketball in the aspect that coaching is key and teamwork helps achieve success. As far as the cooking, Ford says his team has made a few turnovers, but a lot of slam dunks as well.
After the presentation and some approvals from the upperclassman, it was my turn. I definitely give the Cowboy Chefs and A+.
