Bixby Bicycle Shop Owner Asks For Help In Catching Vandal

Bixby Police are investigating after a pickup crashed into a Bixby business early Saturday morning in the 8300 block of East 111th Street South.

Bixby Bicycles was badly damaged after the truck rammed through the building and caught fire. No driver was around when emergency crews arrived.

Police say no one was hurt, and owner Buster Brown said it's not the first time the busy store has been damaged by vandals. He believes his store was deliberately targeted.

Brown got the call around 5 a.m. from Bixby police.

"That's never a good sign when you get a call from them," he said. "This is the second time for our business, and other businesses are affected."

News On 6 interviewed Brown after someone smashed his windows and threw a diesel-soaked rag into the building at the end of last year. The rag did not catch fire, but Brown said it was thrown into the clothing section of the bike shop.

He's worried that his shop is being targeted by someone who doesn't like cyclists or the group rides that leave from this location.

"One of my concerns is - what's next?" he asked. "Whoever is behind this - what's next?

A dance studio next door to Bixby Bicycles was also damaged Saturday morning. Other businesses in the same strip mall are now without gas and water, but the bike store sustained most of the damage.

"It's probably going to have to be gutted and completely redone," Brown said.

They have a warehouse nearby, and he hopes to temporarily re-open in that location next week.

The truck that crashed into the business is an older model white Chevy pickup with Oklahoma tags 700-ACK. Police are reviewing surveillance video from the incident.
