FEMA representatives are set up at Poteau High School's Community safe room helping LeFlore County residents with claims from damage caused by an EF-2 tornado that hit the county last month.

“Anytime that a disaster declaration has been made by the President of the United States, then the state and that county has shown that there is definitely a need here,” Susan Solomon, FEMA said.

Jill Thompson told KFSM, the CBS affiliate in Fort Smith, her and her family were home when the storms hit on May 25.

“I didn't think I'd ever need them, but you know I'm glad they're there to help people,” Jill Thompson said.

FEMA representatives suggest residents also register your damage with the small business administration even if you're not seeking a loan.

They said this will help you be considered for all possible federal assistance.

FEMA disaster center will be open through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
