Troopers arrest two men in connection with a hit-and-run in Verdigris that killed a woman and sent her friend to the hospital.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said around 5:30 Friday morning, a popular Rogers County cut-thru became a crime scene.

OHP said two women were walking at about 5:30 a.m. at 530 Road and South Meadow Ridge Road when a vehicle hit them and kept going.

One woman died while the other was flown to a hospital with critical injuries, but troopers said she is in stable condition.

Investigators spent hours along 530 Road trying to find the driver responsible for hitting the two women walking on the side of the road.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Rogers County Sheriff's Office and Verdigris Police Department worked all day to track down leads; now two brothers are behind bars.

Trooper Matt Ledbetter believed a car used in the hit-and-run was behind a home near the Port of Catoosa.

"It's far from wrapped up, but it feels good to finally have an understanding of what's going on," he said.

The highway patrol questioned and arrested Gage and Dakota Shriver. Investigators believe Gage was behind the wheel when the two women were hit.

"We don't know if they saw them, we don't know what happened. We know they have a crash, they strike the young girls, they leave the scene,” Ledbetter said.

Maranda Talley was identified as the surviving victim. Her family said she just graduated from Verdigris High School and was on her way to be a cheerleader at Oral Roberts University.

Talley's step-mother told News On 6 the family has set up a fundraising page to help cover her medical expenses because the doesn't have insurance.

According to the page, Maranda suffered multiple injuries to her head, arms and body including extensive facial lacerations.

Neighbors said the area where the two women were hit is frequently used by runners and walkers. They complain that drivers speed through the area to get to the Port of Catoosa.
