Tulsa firefighters were able to save the lives of two family pets in a house fire near West Pine Street and North Gilcrease Road.

Tulsa Fire Department says the fire was contained to one bedroom, and four cats were pulled out of the home. Acting Chief Rick Hayes said crews used pet oxygen equipment on the kittens, and two pulled through.

"We all carry the pet O2 kits now to help in situations like this where we find animals that have been in smokey environments," he said.

"We all enjoy being able to use it and saving the animals."

The kits help clear out the pets' lungs, giving them a better chance at survival.

No one else was hurt in the fire, and Hayes said the family was going to try to stay in the residence. There was some smoke damage throughout the residence, but firefighters used fans to clear out the house.

"We spoke to the family; the family's OK," he said.
