Dropped Cell Phone Leads To Chain-Reaction Tulsa Crash

A driver reaching down for a dropped cell phone caused an injury wreck on Highway 169 in north Tulsa, police say. The driver of a red Ford Ranger northbound at the highway near 36th Street north caused the three-vehicle collision just before 7 a.m. Monday, Corporal J.D. Curran said.

When the driver looked back up, he was unable to avoid traffic in front of him.

He rear-ended another truck then bounced into a third truck, hitting it hard enough to make it roll, Curran said. The truck ended up against the center median facing the wrong direction. Curran said the driver of that truck was taken to the hospital with lacerations and a possible broken arm.

"If you're driving down the highway at 65 m.p.h. and drop your cell phone, leave it there," Curran said.

"Leave it there until you can slow down, get to a safe spot, then pick it up."

The other two drivers were not injured, according to authorities. The roadway was cleared just after 8 a.m.
