About 10 people were displaced after a fire in the Westminster Apartment Complex early Saturday in Tulsa. Firefighters were called to the 4800 block of South 78th East Avenue just after 4:30 a.m.

When firefighters arrived, there was fire in the attic, according to Captain Jeff Wagnon of the Tulsa Fire Department.

"We evacuated all the structures - about 16 units involved," he said.

Most of the residents were able to return to their apartments after the all clear was given, but Wagnon said it was a rude awakening on a chilly Saturday morning.

"You wake them up in a dead sleep, and they see a fire person, and you have to tell them 'hey get out,'" he said. "They're a little bit shocked, a little bit panicked.

"It's cold this morning, so everybody's standing out freezing, so we're trying to get them coats and stuff," he said.

Fire damage was contained to just four units with apartments on the bottom floor damaged by water. The Red Cross is finding shelter for the 10 or so people displaced.

Tulsa fire investigators ruled the fire accidental - caused by an electrical issue in the attic, according to Fire Captain Stan May.
