Tulsa police say the south leg of the Inter Dispersal Loop was closed briefly due to a possibly suicidal subject Saturday afternoon.

Drivers were urged to avoid the area until rescue and police units cleared.

Firefighters worked to rescue a woman who on the a ledge of an overpass near 14th and Denver. She jumped from a bridge that goes over the Broken Arrow Expressway, authorities say.

The woman, thought to be in her 20s, was found on the ledge of a large green highway sign, according to District Chief Roger Williams.

Williams said the woman was confused, and they weren't sure what her intentions were. She was cut up a little bit but willing to come back off the ledge - with help.

"She literally jumped over," said District Chief Roger Williams. "She was kind of in shock, but she was talking to us and wanted to get off the bridge."

Firefighters used a ladder truck to get the woman down, and EMSA transported her to get help, he said.
