Muscogee (Creek) Nation leaders signed agreements Wednesday with a number of area funeral homes giving its citizens a traditional funeral package at a fixed price.
The tribe's Social Services manager ShaRee Scott says this agreement calls for a typical funeral consisting of a casket, a memorial package and professional services, such as embalming for $5,500.
“It's basically offering affordable funeral services. I think this is a big deal, especially for our citizens,” ShaRee Scott said.
Scott says some of the funeral homes include: McClendon-Winters Funeral Home and Schaudt's Funeral Service and Cremation Care in Okmulgee, Rogers Funeral Home in Henryetta, Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Okemah, Hutchins Maples Matherly Funeral Home in Bristow and Green Hill Funeral Home in Sapulpa.
