Police Give Overdose Drug To Unconscious Tulsa Resident

Tulsa Police officers used Narcan medication to save a person they say was suffering from a drug overdose. It happened late Friday at an apartment complex in the 5500 block of South Lewis Avenue.

Officers found the person - who was not identified as male or female - outside the apartment building just before 11 p.m.

"The subject appeared to be unconscious and had very shallow breathing. The subject was also unresponsive to verbal stimulus," police records state.

A witness said they believed the unconscious person had taken some pills.

Tulsa Police administered Narcan which the Centers for Disease Control say is an overdose drug used to save people from heroin and narcotic pain medicine.

"After the dosage, the subject appeared to open their eyes and seemed to become more responsive," the release states.

EMSA medics then transported the person to the hospital.

The CDC says the majority of drug overdose deaths in the U.S. are caused by narcotics like oxycodone or hydrocodone, cocaine and heroin.
