Police said a man wanted by the United States Marshal Fugitive Task Force Team shot and killed himself as officers tried to make contact with him Thursday evening.
According to the Bartlesville Police Department, they were contacted by the Fugitive Task Force Thursday morning about a suspect in an Osage County case staying in a Bartlesville motel.
Bartlesville officers, Osage County deputies and members of the Fugitive Task Force set up surveillance, according to the release, in an attempt to arrest the man.
Thursday afternoon, police said a vehicle arrived at the motel and left shortly after with a man and woman inside. The man was eventually identified as the person they were seeking.
Officers said they made contact with the vehicle at the Eastland Shopping Center, then heard one gun shot inside the vehicle.
According to the release, the wanted man shot himself. Emergency crews arrived and took the man to a hospital where he later died.
They said the woman was not injured and was taken to the station for questioning.
Police said they served a warrant on the motel room around 8 p.m. Thursday and found illegal drugs along with two other people and a small child inside the room.
The release said the child was taken into custody by DHS and the two others were arrested.
The name of the wanted man and what he was wanted for have has not been released.
