Tulsa road and street crews are getting ready for the threat of winter weather, preparing for possible snow and ice on arterial streets within the city.

Road crews are on standby starting at noon Sunday in case management decides to send them out.

The City of Tulsa says they have 63 trucks with mounted salt and sand spreaders, and 46 of those have snow plows.

They also have seven four-by-four pickups equipped with plows, three graders, about 9,500 tons of salt and 170 employees including drivers and support staff.

The spreader trucks are assigned to 35 routes totaling almost 1,800 lane miles. They give priority to heavily trafficked areas and routes to hospitals.
