The Wagoner County Sheriff's Office says it has received reports that someone is impersonating a deputy.

According to sheriff Bob Colbert, someone has been posing as a Wagoner County Sheriff's Investigator and gives the name of "Investigator Parker." The man is calling people from a number showing on the caller ID as 918-485-4938 (the fax number for the sheriff's office). He reportedly makes up stories about bogus checks and demands money for the checks. He goes on to threaten that if they do not pay, they will receive a visit from deputies to arrest them.

Colbert wants the public to be aware of this scam and to be on guard. He said his deputies will never try to collect funds from anyone. Colbert warns that the call could come from any number and the person could be identifying himself with any name.

If you receive any of these calls from a purported law enforcement agency demanding money, Colbert urges you to call your local law enforcement or the agency they claim to represent for verification.
