Tulsa firefighters said dogs barking woke up two residents inside a duplex which caught fire late Tuesday.
The Tulsa Fire Department got the call about a house on fire in the 200 block of Rosedale at about 10:45 p.m. By the time firefighters arrived, the fire had spread from the front porch into the attic. They said both residents, their two dogs and a cat were already outside.
Fire Captain Mike Burgess said the smoke detectors inside the duplex were not working and if it hadn't been for the dogs barking, this fire could have turned out differently.
He said the other half of the duplex was occupied but no one was home at the time. The Red Cross was called out to help the fire victims.
Investigators are now trying to determine the cause of the fire which appeared to have started in furniture on the front porch.
