Many chose to honor Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy by volunteering in a Day of Service on Monday.
One project took place at a Tulsa high school organized by the education non-profit group "City Year."
More than 125 volunteers including members of Americorps teamed up to beautify buildings on the Webster High School campus at 1919 West 40th Street. The project included painting murals on walls of five buildings.
"They saw us prepping the walls and doing some of the sketches on Friday. The students were wondering what we were doing, and tomorrow morning, they're going to be pretty surprised," said Tom McKeon with City Year.
Organizers say it's important to make schools more engaging, educational, and vibrant places to learn and play.
