An elderly man in his 90s has been rescued from a burning home in East Tulsa, officials say.

According to firefighters, a neighbor tried unsuccessfully to pull the man through a window of the home at first.

"We had a fire across the street and an old guy is in there," Antonio Perez said. "I looked and knew I had to do something. I had to save him. I asked him to get out. He said no. I jumped in and got him. He was heavy, over 200 pounds. I couldn't get him by myself."

Tulsa firefighters took over and brought the man to safety once they arrived just before 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Firefighters said they just went through extended "window rescue" training earlier in the day.

Paramedics transported the resident, who happens to be the father of a Tulsa firefighter, to a local hospital for smoke inhalation. He is expected to be OK.

Investigators said the fire may have began due to an electrical issue. The fire marshal will rule on the official cause later.
