A man crashed into a power pole in north Tulsa early Friday, snapping the pole. Police say he must have been going over the speed limit to cause that kind of damage.

It happened at about 6:30 a.m. in the 1400 block of North Sheridan. The driver of a black Mercedes sedan was southbound when he swerved off the road and struck a utility pole. The pole snapped, and the transformer fell to the ground.

The impact swung the sedan around and up til it landed on the driver's side. He was taken to the hospital with what police called minor injuries.

He was also ticketed for speeding and not having a driver's license.

An officer at the scene said the man told them he fell asleep at the wheel. They don't believe alcohol was involved.
