OHP Troopers said when the occupants of the car that was hit exited to look at the damage the Accord, driven by 43-year-old Von Dale John, drove away, west, on I-44.
OHP Captain Dwight Durant said Johnson attempted to take the ramp to northbound Highway 75 at a high speed and the Accord rolled several times and came to rest on its top.
They said Johnson was ejected sometime during the crash and was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
In a news release sent out Monday, OHP said Johnson passed away on December 12, but they were not notified until December 19th.
