Tulsa police officers and firefighters tried to help the Salvation Army meet its goal Friday by competing in the battle of the Red Kettle bell ringers at Woodland Hills Mall.
The idea is to see who can raise the most money.
"Who you gonna call when someone's breaking into your house? It's not the fire department," officers said.
Firefighters said, "Everybody loves a fireman, and we do really good ringing the bell. So I think people will come and fill our bucket twice as much as they do the police."
All the money raised will help buy food and toys for 4,300 Tulsa area families this Christmas.
The competition ended at 8 p.m. Friday, but totals have not been released yet.
