A Moore man was killed Monday in Dewey County when he lost control of his pickup and hit a tree, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Troopers say Travis Scott Tarver was driving southeast on U.S. Highway 270 just before 5 p.m. when a semi truck he was following slowed to make a left turn. Tarver, who investigators say was driving at a high rate of speed, passed the semi on the left.
The 20-year-old Moore resident lost control of the truck after jerking the vehicle back into its lane, the collision report states. The truck rolled one time then hit a tree. Tarver was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at a hospital.
A passenger in his truck, 19-year-old Jason Guevara Siliezar of Moore, was also critically injured, the report states.
The driver of the semi truck was not injured.
Troopers say Tarver was in apparently normal condition at the time of the wreck. The cause of the wreck is listed as unsafe speed.
Both men in the pickup truck were wearing seat belts, according to OHP.
