The sheriff's office says a homeowner and a thief got into a shootout after the thief tried to break into a vehicle overnight.

Deputies said the homeowner pulled up to his home at in the 1200 block of East 163th Street North just after midnight.

He told deputies he saw two men breaking into a vehicle. When the homeowner confronted the pair, one man fired a gun at him so he returned fire.  The thieves ran into a nearby field. Deputies said the homeowner was not hit but they don't know if the two thieves were hit.

Tulsa County sheriff's deputies, Skiatook and Collinsville Police, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the Tulsa police helicopter searched the area around the home.

The sheriff's office said the homeowner's grainy surveillance video indicates one of the men was heavyset and the other was average weight. One was wearing what appeared to be a blue hoodie and green ski mask and the other a gray, hooded sweatshirt.

Deputies called off the search after searching a square mile around the home.
