A relative newcomer to Oklahoma politics, Congressman James Lankford has been elected to the United States Senate. Lankford made his acceptance speech following a widely anticipated victory over Democrat Connie Johnson.

An Edmond resident, Lankford will fill the seat for the final two years of Tom Coburn's term.

"Oklahoma is OK," Lankford said in his acceptance speech. "Washington does not need to fix Oklahoma. Oklahoma is going to fix Washington."

Lankford was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives on November 2, 2010. He serves on the House Committees on Budget and Oversite and Government Reform. He is the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Energy Policy, Health Care and Entitlements.

He is a 46-year-old Baptist minister who came from a background as the director of Falls Creek Youth Camp, a Baptist Conference Center. It's one of the largest youth camps in the United State.

He also coordinated mission trips throughout the world.
