The Tulsa volleyball team (15-8, 7-5 AAC) swept the Tulane Green Wave (5-19, 3-9 AAC), 25-15, 25-19, 25-20, as Ashley Hooper recorded a match-high 12 kills on 15 attacks while hitting a career-best .800, in Tulsa's second win in a row, Sunday afternoon.
Erica Bohannon tallied 10 kills on the day, while Valerie El Houssine notched eight kills and 12 digs. Senior Carly Boatwright made her first appearance of the season, playing in all three sets, as she tallied two blocks and a dig in her 2014 debut.
Brooke Berryhill tallied a match-high 18 digs, while Bailey Clampitt finished with 31 assists, also a match-high. Nicole Newton finished with a match-high four blocks to go along with five kills.
The win gave TU the season sweep over Tulane.
The first set was a back-and-forth in the early going, with three lead changes through the first nine points of the match. Tulsa forced the home side to use an early timeout, after the Hurricane opened up its largest lead, at 8-6.
After the break, TU rallied off three of the next four points to take a 12-7 lead. Tulane cut Tulsa's lead to 12-10, however, the Hurricane responded with a 5-1 run to take its biggest lead at 17-11, forcing the Green Wave to use its second timeout.
The Golden Hurricane kept its foot on the pedal and closed out the set on an 8-4 run to go ahead 1-0 in the match. TU finished the set with nine kills, while holding Tulane to just five kills. The Green Wave hit -.036 in the opening frame.
The Hurricane got off a quicker start in the second set, using a 6-2 run to race out to a 9-5 lead, and force Tulane to use another quick timeout.
The Green Wave used the timeout to its advantage, tying up the match, 11-11. Tulsa would use yet another big run to balloon its lead to 20-15, with two Bohannon kills during the stretch, and force Tulane to use its second timeout.
Tulsa was then forced to use its first timeout three points later after the Green Wave used a 3-0 rally to cut the deficit to 20-18.
That would be the closest the Hurricane would allow Tulane to get, finishing the set on a 5-1 run.
The final set saw the Hurricane race out to a 6-0 lead, a stretch that which saw four Tulane attack errors. The Green Wave managed to close the gap to 8-6, however, Tulsa would not allow the home team to get any closer after stretching the lead to 19-13, before ending the match in a clean sweep.
Tulsa will now come back home for a couple of matches against Cincinnati and Memphis next weekend.
