The cool air remains across northern OK this morning with low temps in the upper 30s and lower 40s. Clear sky, light wind, and dry air have allowed readings to drop just above local dew points. Our afternoon highs will move back into the upper 60s across eastern OK and the lower 70s this afternoon from Tulsa to the west with light and variable winds around 5 mph as a surface ridge of high pressure migrates across southern Kansas into southwestern Missouri. I'm tracking two fronts for the next 7 days, but the second system brings another decent chance for showers and storms back to the state.
The clear and crisp fall air will remain today with highs moving slightly above the seasonal average. Another fast moving clipper type system dropping out of Canada will move across the central plains later tomorrow. This short wave-trough will push a surface boundary into the state Thursday night with north winds and falling temps. Before this front arrives, Thursday afternoon highs should climb into the mid-70s with sunshine and southwest winds around 15mph. The colder air with this system will “back door" it's way across the Midwest and into eastern OK Friday and Saturday. The data continues to get colder with almost every run and now is suggesting Fridays highs will only reach the lower to mid-50s with north winds around 10 to 20 mph.
Another system will be nearing the state Sunday night into Monday morning with additional shower and thunderstorm chances Monday into Tuesday. Temps Monday will more than likely remain in the 60s during the day with scattered showers and storms along with south winds. A surface cold front will move across the state Monday night into Tuesday but showers and storms may persist on the cool side of the boundary for most of Tuesday. The longer range solutions also indicate another very strong system nearing the state early next week. If these early runs are even remotely correct, next week will be active and wet across the region.
