Construction has started at one of Tulsa's busiest intersections, and it could impact how you get to Woodland Hills Mall during the most hectic shopping season. Crews have narrowed the intersection at 71st and Memorial to start replacing the concrete pavement.
The lane closures began Tuesday morning. Crews plan to replace nearly all the concrete pavement in the intersection which is always busy because of all the shops.
They plan to close only one lane at a time.
The City sent out a news release Monday saying the work would be completed by Thanksgiving, but on Tuesday they said they've decided to stop the construction November 15th and restart it after January 1st to avoid the holiday shopping season.
"We don't want to shut down any lanes on 71st during that prime shopping season for that area so we are going to shut down during that period," said Brad Crutcher, City of Tulsa construction manager.
They plan to have a lot of the work done by November 15. Then, after January 1, 2015, the City says crews will probably need an additional three months to finish it.
