The Tulsa Health Department began offering seasonal flu vaccinations Monday and for some, the cost of getting the vaccine will be nothing.
They have two types of shots available this year. County health officials say getting one of these shots is the best way to prevent against the flu.
One includes protection against three types of flu including H1N1 and A and B strain that is expected to go around this year. The other vaccine protects against four strains including a second B strain.
The Centers for Disease Controls does not recommend one over the other. Health officials say you should talk with your doctor about the best one for you.
People with Medicaid, Medicare, SoonerCare, Community Care or Blue Cross/Blue Shield can take their insurance card and a photo ID to avoid paying for the shot.
For everyone else, the cost is $25.
Health officials including the CDC encourage anyone over the age of six months to get a shot.
The flu vaccines will be offered to anyone over the age of six months on a walk-in basis Mondays through Thursdays 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and Fridays 8:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m. at the following Tulsa Health Department locations:
