One Killed, Three Injured In Nowata County Head-On Crash

Three people were injured and a Colorado man killed in a Nowata County head-on collision. Troopers say the wreck took place just before 4 a.m. on U.S. Highway 60 near County Road 4050.

Shirley McGee of South Coffeyville was driving westbound on the highway and failed to negotiate a curve, according to a report by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. Her Acura crossed the center line and hit a Ford Mustang driven by Jesse Jackson of Nowata.

A passenger in McGee's car, 21-year-old Dayton Beard of Fort Carson, Colorado, died at the scene with massive injuries. Another passenger, 21-year-old Nicole Bryer of Lenapah, was taken to the hospital in critical condition with head and leg injuries.

Neither Beard nor Bryer was wearing a seatbelt, the trooper's report states.

McGee was treated and released from a Bartlesville hospital with a leg injury. The 22-year-old Jackson was treated and released from the same hospital with head and leg injuries. Both were wearing seatbelts, according to the OHP.

Police say McGee's condition at the time of the wreck is under investigation.

The highway was closed for over three hours as emergency crews investigated and cleared the fatality collision. Oglesby firefighters freed two of the injured using the jaws of life.
