Some big names in the “Tulsa Sound” are being inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame. Board members announced this year’s inductees Tuesday at the historic Cain’s Ballroom in downtown Tulsa.
It’s only the second time in the Hall of Fame's 17-year history that the induction ceremony will be held outside of Muskogee.
"So this year we'd like to announce we're going to do our show here at Cain’s Ballroom on November 1st,” said Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame Executive Director Jim Blair.

Names embedded in the history of the music genre nicknamed The Tulsa Sound: Elvin Bishop, Jim Keltner, Chuck Blackwell, J.J. Cale and Lowell Fulson, were announced as the newest inductees honored this year.
The show will be a first for the historic Cain’s Ballroom, considered a mecca for musicians – especially those who call Tulsa home.
Musician David Teegarden, said, "Cale as a very young man played here, that's when he played a lot of Country Western."
Teegarden and Jimmy Markum played with the late inductee J.J. Cale and recall how easy it was making music with one of the greats on stage.
“It was unscripted, we would just get on stage and he would just start playing and we'd all just join in,” Teegarden said.
Markum said, “It was just the same as hanging out with him in the daytime."
Chuck Blackwell, a drummer being honored at this year’s event, remembers playing at Cain’s and all the good times he had.
It’s those good times and good memories that Teegarden and Markham hope to recreate come November when they'll honor their friends and fellow musicians on a Tulsa stage known for its unforgettable sound.
Tickets to the event go on sale August 15th. General admission is $30.
