Before the new school year begins, Tulsa Public Schools needs to fill 120 open jobs, and the clock is ticking.
It takes more than teachers to shape young minds. Before the some 40,000 students head back to school in August, Tulsa Public Schools needs to fill 120 open jobs.
"All kind of support positions. Everything from bus drivers to janitors, to secretaries, clerks child nutrition. A variety of positions we have 120 open, and we are going to do a job fair a week from today," said Chris Payne, Tulsa Public Schools.
Besides teachers, TPS is hiring bus drivers, secretaries, custodians, grounds crew and more.
School officials want Tulsans who are looking for a job to polish up their resumes then head to East Central for part time and full time roles on campuses across the district. Some technical positions require certifications, but training is available for other jobs.
The job fair will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday, August 4 at East Central High School, 12150 East 11th Street.
"We are going to be having representatives from different areas there on hand to talk to people," Payne said.
Officials point out learning happens in the cafeteria where they need workers and even in the hall - where custodians are needed.
"Everybody that in a role in TPS touches upon the needs of our students and in some way are in a position to make an impression on them," said Chris Payne of Tulsa Public Schools.
All of the positions that need to be filled are listed online. Electricians, custodians and plumbers are encouraged to apply, but if you have a good work ethic and don't have certifications listed online, don't count yourself out.
"We are willing to do training with some folks, but school will be starting pretty quick so we'd just like to get our open positions filled," he said.
The first 200 applicants will get a free hot and frozen custard, according to a TPS release.
You can also apply online, before the job fair at the Tulsa Public Schools web site. If you don't have Internet access, call 918-746-6327 or go to the Education Service Center at 3027 South New Haven Avenue.
