Every week Tulsa police say they see crimes against our senior citizens, so Mayor Dewey Bartlett and Tulsa Police proclaimed Monday World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

They wanted seniors to know that the city has services and agencies available to assist them. There were exhibits, therapy dogs and educational activities in addition to speakers.

Approximately 85 groups showed up helping to make this the largest crime prevention event ever hosted by Tulsa Police.

"Everybody who came out today is taking a stand saying this is not acceptable - this is what this event and say is about - raising awareness saying: no to abuse against our seniors," said Detective Debbie Crisp, Tulsa Police.

The event also showed appreciation to seniors for their contributions to our community.
