The public is invited to a event intended to raise awareness and help prevent abuse of the elderly. The Tulsa Police Department, state and federal agencies will hold World Elder Abuse Awareness Day Monday, June 16 at the Cox Business Center in downtown Tulsa.
The free event begins at 11 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m., according to a release from the TPD.
"We want people to know that we will not tolerate victimization of the elderly and that we celebrate them for what they have contributed to our community," said Detective Debbie Crisp of the Tulsa Police Financial Crimes/Senior Services Unit.
Speakers from the U.S. and Oklahoma Attorneys General offices, the U.S. Postal Service, the Oklahoma Healthy Aging Initiative and other agencies will be on hand with helpful information on programs and services available for elders.
There will be door prizes, exhibits, entertainment and education acitivites, the release states. The Cox Business Center is located at 100 Civic Center.
