Strep and sore throats are What's Going Around in Sapulpa and Okmulgee.
Our doctors and nurses at the Muscogee Creek Nation Department of Health said your sore throat could be caused by a viral infection, sinus drainage, or allergies.
Go see your doctor if your sore throat lasts longer than a week, if you develop a rash, a fever higher than 101 and joint pain or swelling in the neck.
Strep is highly contagious, so avoid spreading germs by not sharing food or drinks with anyone and throw away your old toothbrush.
If family members also develop a sore throat, they too, will need to be evaluated for strep.
Some symptoms include a sore throat, enlarged tonsils with white or red patches, a fever, chills and a headache.
There is also a flare-up of head-lice. It's usually the kids who get it first because they tend to share hats, combs and brushes.
The most obvious signs are the bugs in the hair, but you may also see some white lice eggs sticking to hair strands.
It's very easy to pass lice from one person to another you'll want to clean all furniture, linens, pillows, clothes.
Use a lice shampoo and check everyone in your house to make sure they don't have it too.
