An OU basketball player is recovering after being hit by a stray bullet.

Isaiah Cousins was home in Mount Vernon, New York and was talking with some friends Tuesday night when he was hit in the back of the shoulder by a bullet.

There had been reports of rival gangs fighting in the area the past couple of days, but it's believed this wasn't related and that Cousins wasn't targeted.

Doctors aren't planning surgery.

OU head coach Lon Kruger said in a statement that "it was truly a matter of him (Cousins) being in the wrong place at the wrong time. He should be healed in a few weeks and begin summer activities with the rest of the team in June. We're very thankful it wasn't worse than it was."

Cousins will be a junior next season and had averaged 11 points and four rebounds per game this past year with the Sooners.
