Some very inventive Jenks eighth graders are getting national attention for their do it yourself, home tornado protection plan. Weather experts say their idea can save lives.
The girls are invited to go to Washington D.C. next month to compete in a national science competition. They've already won $9,000, but another win could be worth $20,000.
Their plan does not meet FEMA standards, but it does provide citizens with a do it yourself option for less than $500.
They're competing in the eCYBERMISSION science competition sponsored by the U.S. Army. For more information on how to take part in it, visit the competition's web site.
