OHP Identifies Men Hurt In Cherokee County Plane Crash

Two Arkansas men are in a Tulsa hospital following a single-engine plane crash in Cherokee County on Saturday, April 12, 2014.

Troopers identify the men as John McCreary, 75 and Albert Demarco, Jr., 85, both of Ozark, Arkansas. 

A medical helicopter flew the men to Tulsa with head and internal injuries. A hospital spokesperson says McCreary was in fair condition, Demarco was in serious condition as of Monday morning.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the crash happened at 11:42 a.m. Saturday about a mile north of the Cookson Airport.

The OHP report stated the 1946 Ercoupe had just taken off from the airport and was flying northbound when it went down.

Witnesses at the airport told the OHP they thought the plane was having engine trouble and watched it flying just above the trees before they lost sight of it.

Troopers said the airplane was found 3/10th of a mile west of Highway 82 and 3/10th of a mile north of Cookson Bend Road in a pasture.

The OHP said it has not yet determined which man was the pilot at the time of the crash.

According to Federal Aviation Administration records, the plane is registered to a Albert Demarco. The NTSB is investigating.
