A high-speed, rear-end crash on the Broken Arrow Expressway at Yale Avenue sent several people, including small children, to a hospital in critical condition.
The crash forced crews to detour eastbound traffic at the Harvard exit, according to Tulsa police.
An officer on the scene said the driver of a compact car was having problems with a tire on her car, and she stopped in the middle of the expressway about 8 p.m.
A sport utility vehicle "did everything it could" and couldn't avoid smashing into the rear of the car at a high speed, he said.
Six people were in the car that was rear-ended, and children in the back seat were not restrained, the officer said.
An EMSA spokesperson said four people were transported to local hospitals. One pediatric patient was transported in serious condition; a 3-year-old boy is in fair condition; and two others, ages unknown, were in fair condition.
TPD says investigators will be using technology with GPS and computerized images to recreate the crash.
