The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says a man being chased by Sapulpa Police officers died when the pickup he was driving crashed Thursday night.
The OHP identifies the man as Kevin Hilburn, 34.
Troopers say police tried to stop the 2000 Chevy for a traffic violation at about 11:30 p.m. when Hilburn sped away.
Troopers said Hilburn was eastbound on I-44 when he attempted to exit at 33rd West Avenue at a high rate of speed. They said the truck missed a curve, went off the road and rolled over multiple times and ejecting him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The OHP said his passenger -- Michiko Henderson, 19, also of Tulsa -- was taken to a Tulsa hospital where she was treated and released.
Major Jeff Gilliland with Sapulpa Police, said, "There is no excuse, no matter what it is, to take that decision to put everybody's life in danger"
Troopers said Hilburn and Henderson were not wearing seat belts.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the Sapulpa Police Department continue to investigate the chase and crash.
Police say Hilburn was driving a stolen truck and had a suspended license.
Oklahoma Department of Corrections records show Hilburn was released from prison on February 18, 2014 after serving time for a conviction in Tulsa County for eluding.
