A Pryor Elementary School will donate over $300 to an animal rescue agency after raising money with a lemonade war.
Lincoln Elementary students used one of their favorite books as inspiration for the fundraiser. Fourth-grade teacher Kathy Lee said kids were inspired by "The Lemonade War," a book by Jacqueline Davis.
In the book, a brother and sister have a little friendly competition in selling lemonade, and students expressed an interest in doing the same - for the benefit of the Pryor Animal League.
Fourth grade students built businesses from the ground up, deciding on names, making advertising plans and tracking expenses. Kids came up with their own recipes for the lemonade they sold to the rest of the school for 50 cents a cup in the school cafeteria this month.
"Students learned the importance of teamwork and cooperation," Lee said. "Most of all the kids have had a great time learning how to make real lemonade and make money."
The students plan to donate the money on Friday.
