Construction work widening Interstate 44 at Lewis Avenue is wrapping up, but there will be major changes impacting traffic this weekend. Some lanes will be opening up - others closing.
Deadline for the project is summer of 2014, but until then, drivers might want to take some lane changes into consideration when planning their routes.
On Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., ODOT will close the left lane of eastbound traffic on I-44 at Lewis so significant delays may take place. Drivers can expect different lane closures to take place Saturday and Sunday starting at 7 a.m. as traffic is moved onto the new sections of roadway.
Those changes will result in all three lanes of the new construction being open for the first time this weekend. ODOT is asking drivers to be extra careful as the lane closures and openings take place.
Lewis Avenue is still closed, however, so use Harvard or Peoria to cross 51st Street.
