It wasn't just the typical positive preseason outlook, the University of Tulsa had a lot of pieces, all around talent in senior Gary Collier and freshman Shea Seals, plenty of size and toughness inside, athleticism and leadership.
The early season results showed promise, TU won four straight to open the schedule before falling at home at the Convention Center to OSU, and then to former TU coach Nolan Richardson and Arkansas.

But it was that game, a 93-91 overtime loss to the top ranked razorbacks, without an injured Shea Seals, that opened the eyes of those in and around the program.
It was December 23rd, and it was a loss, but for the golden hurricane it was an early Christmas present.
