The Oklahoma Department of Health says there were no new deaths during the past week due to the flu, but an additional 15 people were hospitalized as a result of the illness.

The OSDH reported Thursday that the death toll remains at 53 due to the virus during the flu season that began in late September. Another 1,207 hospitalizations have been reported.

The previous record of 46 flu-related deaths in 2009, the year state health officials began tracking the statistic, was broken three weeks ago.

Tulsa County has had the most deaths with nine, followed by Comanche County with six and Oklahoma County with four. Cleveland, Logan, Pittsburg and Wagoner counties have each had three deaths while Carter, Creek, Le Flore, Muskogee and Washington counties have each had two.
