Oral Roberts University senior guard Christian Key has been voted as a Third Team All-Southland Conference selection, the league office announced today. Key is the lone ORU player to earn a spot on the league's postseason awards list.
A Tulsa native, Key leads the Golden Eagles with 14.0 points and 3.1 assists per game, averages that both rank in the Southland's top 15. The senior leads the Southland with an 89.3 percent free-throw percentage, and she ranks seventh in ORU history with 145 made 3-pointers.
Key has paced the Golden Eagles in scoring nine times as a senior, including a 25-point effort at nationally-ranked Nebraska on Dec. 29, and 17 points in the Feb. 8 Homecoming victory over Southeastern Louisiana. The senior scored seven points in the game's final minute against SLU, including a 35-foot buzzer-beater that won the game for the Golden Eagles.
Her career high, a 26-point outburst in a victory over Lamar on Feb. 27, came in a crucial victory that helped book ORU's spot in the Southland Tournament.
A four-year letter winner, Key was a member of ORU's 2010-11 Summit League regular season championship club as well as the 2012-13 team that captured the Southland's regular season and tournament championships. She has played in two Women's National Invitational Tournaments and an NCAA Tournament in her first three collegiate seasons.
ORU (9-19, 8-10 SLC) will open the 2014 Southland Conference Tournament on Thursday, March 13 against Nicholls State. Tipoff is at 11 a.m. at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas.
