Corporal J.D. Curran said it appeared Bowers ran the stop sign at 46th Street North before crashing through the barrier rocks placed at the quarry entrance. He is the fifth person to die in a motor vehicle wreck at the quarry since 2009.

Timothy Baker of Owasso died after crashing into the boulder barrier on September 1, 2013. Three Cleveland residents in their 20s, Troy Adams, Mark Gaches and Andrea Merriman, were killed in September of 2009 after their pickup catapulted into the quarry itself.
