Vinita Man Charged After Explosives Found During Search Of His Home

A Vinita man has been charged in Craig County with six counts of manufacturing an explosive device, making a bomb threat to kill and making a bomb threat to kill and damage property.

Jason Riseman, 27, remains in jail following his arrest at his home on February 20, 2014.

Court records show a search of Riseman's home in the 500 block of North Smith Street turned up six improvised explosive devices along with chemicals, including sulfur and potassium nitrate needed "to produce explosive materials."

While searching the house, investigators say they found one device - a PVC pipe with duct tape and electrical wiring coming out of the top - on the front porch steps. They also noticed a similar device sticking out of the ground on the north side of the residence, court documents state.

A court affidavit stated when asked about the IEDs, Riseman admitted to making them, "but they were not dangerous and not intended to be used." 

Riseman stated he only made the IEDs because he was upset with someone and with the methadone clinic in Miami, but didn't remember making any threats. Investigators say they found numerous syringes and a smoking device in the home but were unable to get enough residue to test the pipe.

Riseman was arrested and booked into jail. He is being held in lieu of a $20,000 bond.
