Tulsa Police say a woman was struck and killed by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train Tuesday afternoon in downtown.

She was identified on Thursday as Jana N. Lawrence, 46.

Capt. Steve Odom with the Tulsa Police Department said two people were walking south on Elwood toward the BOK Center when they tried to cross the train tracks.

"It appears that there were two different trains in the area, one going west and one east," he said. The woman made it past one train but was struck and killed by the westbound train.

Odom said they are interviewing the conductor and other witnesses. The other person walking with the woman made it across the tracks successfully.

"There's no indication that there was anything foul that was done, just a tragic accident," he said.

The railroad crossing at Archer and Elwood is closed because of the incident. The location is just south of the Day Center for the Homeless.
