Federal help could be on the way to parts of Southeastern Oklahoma, which was hit hardest by the December ice storms.

Gov. Mary Fallin has requested a federal disaster declaration for Choctaw, Le Flore, McCurtain and Pushmataha counties.

The winter storm in early December killed 10 people and injured another 800.

Several businesses and schools were forced to close their doors for days.

If approved, federal funding would help the counties pay off the $6.5 million in damages caused by the storm.
