Winter break has ended for Tulsa area schools, including Tulsa Public, Union, Broken Arrow and Jenks. This comes after almost all schools across eastern Oklahoma canceled classes on Monday.
Tulsa Public Schools says parents should expect bus delays Tuesday.
With temperatures in the single digits and wind chills below zero, school officials are urging parents to dress children warmly.
Medical experts say frostbite with these cold temperatures can hit in as little as five minutes, so anyone outdoors should make to cover as much bare skin as possible, especially the ears, toes and fingers because those are more likely to get frostbite. They also advise to dress for the cold in layers.
While Tulsa area school districts are open, many school districts elsewhere canceled classes Tuesday. That list includes Adair, Bartlesville, Claremore, Grove, Jay, Miami, Nowata, Pawhuska, Tahlequah and Vinita.
