Winter Weather Advisory Issued For Green Country

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for snow and it will is in effect from 6 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday.

The advisory is for the following counties: Rogers, Delaware, Cherokee, Adair, Craig, Nowata, Pawnee, Washington, Sequoyah, Wagoner, Tulsa, Ottawa, Mayes, Nowata and Osage.

In Arkansas, counties under the advisory include Benton, Sebastian, Washington, Carroll, Madison, Franklin and Crawford.

The white stuff could come with some brutally cold temperatures.

According to News On 6 Meteorologist Dick Faurot, the most recent projections show we'll be seeing the lowest temperatures since early February 2011.

But Faurot said its going to depend on several factors, one of which is the amount of snowfall in the area, which could be anywhere from a light dusting to 4 inches or more, according to certain projections. Faurot said, it looks more like the Tulsa metro is in for 1 to 2 inches of snow, with 2 to 4 inches falling in the more northeastern counties.

"The timing is dependent on the arrival of the cold air and the initial surge of colder air will be arriving during the afternoon and evening hours of Saturday," Faurot said.

Faurot said the rain should turn to snow well after dark Saturday night. That'll be over by early Sunday morning.

"There will be a brief period in which some sleet or freezing rain may occur before the transition to all snow takes place. All the precipitation should have ended by noon Sunday and we may even see some breaks in the clouds that afternoon," Faurot said.

Depending on how much snow actually ends up on the ground, that storm could usher in the coldest air we've experienced in this area in nearly three years Sunday night and into Monday.

"Temperatures during the day Sunday will generally be in the teens or low 20s at best with wind chill values into the single digits," Faurot said.

So prepare for a wet and then snowy Sunday and an ice-cold start to the week.
