There could soon be more foreign language teachers at area schools, but they won't be teaching Spanish or French.
The state department of education is now granting annual certifications to American Indian language instructors to teach tribal languages in public schools.
The education department says there are a couple instructors from the Sac and Fox Nation certified through the new process as well as one from the Creek.
Several other instructors from the Choctaw, Chickasaw, Kiowa and Osage tribes had previously been approved.
The Cherokee language is already being taught in some Oklahoma schools.
