The Tulsa Fire Department says if it wasn't for a working smoke detector a fire at a home in the 8900 block of East Newton Street could have turned deadly.
Firefighters say the fire started in a bedroom Monday morning.
Tulsa Fire Captain Stan May says two girls and a 6-year-old were inside the house at the time. He says a smoke detector probably saved their lives.
"If it wasn't for that smoke detector they wouldn't have noticed it near as quick and been able to get everybody out of the house," said Captain Stan May.
The cause is under investigation, but we've been told it appears to be an accident.
